BlackFest is taking over our October Scratch Night, and they’re thrilled to present an exciting line-up of emerging talent.
Audiences can look forward to bold new work from ambitious creatives across music, poetry, performance, and storytelling:
RESILA – a music performer and composer originally from Kenya. She plays the piano and guitar, and she also sings. Her work is rooted in storytelling through music, whether sharing her own experiences or exploring the real and imagined stories of others. Alongside her love for performing and watching musical theatre, she is currently producing some of her written music. This includes indie-pop songs and a musical theatre song cycle of seven songs, presented as a conversation between a couple navigating the potential end of their relationship. RESILA is building her career as both a music composer and director, bringing stories to life through music on both the page and the stage.
Shakquille – a spoken word poet who has worked with platforms such as Hockley Hustle, I Am Loud, We Don’t Settle, Sofar Sounds, We Out Here Festival, and BlackFest. His work has been described as captivating, warm, and rhythmical.
Bluboy – a Merseyside-based artist who seeks to bring representation for young Black and Mixed Race men and boys who have grown up in predominantly white spaces. He also advocates for visibility and representation of Black Neurodivergence, particularly within conversations around the autistic spectrum, where voices are often overlooked.
Chelsea (Chelsey Linnea Emery) – a multidisciplinary performing artist blending soul, story, and sound. Her work spans stage to screen, channeling deep vulnerability into authentic performances. Based in Liverpool, UK, Chelsey is driven by human connection, truth in expression, and the transformative power of art. Originally from Houston, Texas, and a Third Cultured Adoptee, she is dedicated to debunking stereotypes and living in authentic creative freedom through music, nature, and connection. Chelsey continues to seek projects that challenge her creatively and allow collaboration with like-minded artists.
This special evening will showcase experimental new works that use theatre and performance to bring stories to life — whether through writing, directing, poetry, music, or a blend of forms. Each artist will bring a unique voice and perspective to the stage.
Following the showcase, audiences are invited to take part in open mic slots. Spaces are limited, so advance sign-up is required by emailing [email protected].
BlackFest cannot wait to share a night of creativity, storytelling, and community with both the artists and the audience!
