Cockpit Theatre

The traditional 450 seat timber framed Shakespearean theatre. Get ready to be transported back in time... are you excited?

At the heart of our building is a reconstruction of Inigo Jones’ Cockpit-in-Court Theatre.

Our Cockpit Theatre can be configured in both in-the-round and end-stage formats, creating a unique and intimate experience for every production.

We’re excited to let you explore the Cockpit Theatre in VR before you visit. Take a virtual look around the space, explore the seating layout and stage, and get a feel for the different views from each area. Take a look here.

Not sure which seats to choose? If you’ve never visited a theatre quite like ours before, our virtual tour is a great way to find the right seats for you.

Explore the theatre without other audience members present, see where each seat is located, discover how the different levels are accessed (including the stairs to the Pit), and check out the view of the stage from different areas.

Please note that set designs can vary between productions and may affect your view. The virtual tour shows the Cockpit in its basic configuration.

And, read a little further down to discover the additional support we have available to help make your visit to our beautiful theatre as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.

Cockpit Theatre, In The Round

The magic of our Cockpit Theatre is that it shapeshifts, and in August we reconfigured our stage into-the-round, giving audiences a closer view of the stage and creating an extra special, intimate atmosphere. Our productions of As You Write It and A Midsummer Night’s Dream were our first performances in the round, and the response from our audience was incredible!

Pay What You Decide
