A playful introduction to Shakespeare—for everyone aged 12 and up!
No acting experience? Never read a word of Shakespeare? Perfect. This workshop is open to all—whether you’re a complete beginner or a curious enthusiast. You’re equally welcome with or without experience.
What to Expect
In this fun and friendly two-hour session, we’ll dive into the vibrant world of cue-based Shakespeare. You’ll explore:
- What “cue-based” actually means
- How cues reveal character and shape performance
- The magic of the First Folio—pronunciation, punctuation, and even CAPITAL LETTERS
- A taste of verse structure (and maybe a touch of prose)
- And always, the joyful chaos of Repeated Cues!
In the Space
- Comfortable seating for all participants
- A flip chart or whiteboard (if available—but we can manage without)
- Optional handouts (emailed to participants after the workshop to save paper)
Come curious, leave inspired!
Facilitated by…
After working as a schoolteacher in the 1990s, Lizzie retrained as an actor and is still a working theatre professional. In 2017, Lizzie founded Shake-Scene Shakespeare, the only theatre company in the UK currently dedicated to performing and teaching the Original Renaissance Practice of working from cued parts. Actors receive their lines and cue words only, never the whole play, and the cast do not rehearse together before performance. This is following the practices of the original playhouse players of Shakespeare. Lizzie works constantly as the company’s Artistic Director, creating new productions for online and in-person performance.
About the Company
Shake-Scene Shakespeare firmly believe Shakespeare is for EVERYONE. Delivering unique theatre performance and exciting workshops since 2017, they are the only production company in the UK currently working from original Renaissance-style cue-based texts, with our actors never rehearsing together before first performance, making an unique contribution to 21st century theatre.
As a female-lead company, Shake-Scene openly embrace diversity and inclusivity in all our performers, and are committed to equality of opportunity across genders, age-groups, abilities and ethnicities. This makes our work radically interesting, as our contemporary casting melds with our original practice productions, creating something new from the best of old and new practices.
Acting from cues injects fresh and vibrant life into familiar and unfamiliar classical texts, providing unique live theatre experiences.
