Delivered by Shake-Scene Shakespeare, who specialise in this extraordinary and thoroughly enjoyable performance style, this workshop will keep you on your toes and share how to bring Shakespearean text to life using this unique and time-honoured tradition.
Join us for a two-hour introduction to cue-based Shakespeare, covering:
- What does cue-based mean?
- What cues can tell you about a character
- First folio pronunciation, punctuation & CAPITAL LETTERS
- A little bit of verse structure, & maybe verse to prose
- And always, the joy of Repeated Cues!
No previous Shakespeare experience required, no acting experience required, you’re equally welcome with and without!
All text will be provided electronically ahead of the workshop. This workshop is a practical session, so be sure to dress appropriately, with suitable footwear.

About the company...
Shake-Scene Shakespeare are currently the only UK theatre company performing from cued parts – meaning that the actors receive solely their lines and cues and (with the exception of dances and fights) will not rehearse together before stepping on stage to perform.
Why? Because this is how Shakespeare’s own actors did it! Expect surprises, laughs and controlled creative chaos – no two performances are ever the same.
Shake-Scene Shakespeare perform live in person and online, and have covered the full Shakespeare canon as well as plays by Shakespeare’s contemporary writers – the exploration never ends… Classic stories, rollercoaster emotions, beautiful words and spontaneous, unpredictable performances created before your eyes!
