Poetry and Activism workshop with Amina Atiq

Join Amina Atiq, celebrated local poet, to explore stories of resilience.

Can poetry be a vehicle of social change? Are you the next aspiring radical poet? Join Amina Atiq for a session of reading, writing and exploring poetry of social activism. We’ll discuss how poets have long been part of global  movements and brought radical change through literature. We’ll write our own protest poetry in response to the social and political issues you are most passionate about with the exploration of inspired 7th century Arabic Al-Ghazal structure. 

1-3pm Drop-in activity to explore the importance of poets in our society and highlighting narratives of struggle and resilience.

4-5pm Free Ticketed session for adults to explore their own creative voice through poetry, with the option to perform their work at 5pm in our gallery space.

Amina Atiq is a Yemeni-British poet, performance artist, creative-educational practitioner and award-winning community activist.  Awarded Steve Biko Young Achievers, featured  in the top 100 Inspirational Women of Merseyside list , the future List 2022 of Northern Woman awards and was a finalist of BBC Words First. Amina currently sits on the Anti-racist board for Curious Minds & Diversity Action Group for the Liverpool Everyman & Playhouse Theatres and Critical Friends Group at Liverpool Biennial.
