Trustee
We are now seeking new Trustees to join our board and play a vital role in shaping the next chapter of our remarkable story. We are particularly keen to hear from individuals who can bring fundraising experience, industry contacts, or a creative background. Shakespeare North are committed to ensuring that our leadership reflects the communities we serve across Knowsley and the wider Liverpool City Region. We warmly encourage applications from individuals of all backgrounds, experiences, and identities—especially those with a deep local knowledge of Prescot and Knowsley.
Previous board experience is not required — what matters most is a genuine passion for theatre, creativity, and community, together with a commitment to shaping an inspiring and sustainable future for Shakespeare North. We are seeking proactive, hands-on trustees who are willing to work collaboratively with, and provide support to our Senior Leadership and Extended Leadership Team within their respective areas of expertise.
This is a voluntary role, but it’s one that makes a real difference—working with an organisation that delivers meaningful projects and positive change. It’s also a role that can be highly rewarding for the person taking it on, helping to enhance both experience and profile. Serving as a trustee is a fantastic opportunity for personal and professional growth, and we’re excited to offer someone the chance to learn, develop, and gain from their time and skills with Shakespeare North.
The Role
We are currently looking to appoint up to four Board Trustees to further enhance and strengthen our Board effectiveness through the provision of independent advice and support.
We are particularly keen to hear from individuals who can bring one or more of the following:
- Fundraising experience – We are seeking trustees with experience in securing support from grant-making bodies, trusts, and foundations, helping us to strengthen our funding base and deliver our ambitious artistic and community programme.
- A Creative Background – We are seeking trustees with experience in theatre, film, or another artistic discipline, with a demonstrated commitment to supporting and developing artists, nurturing talent, and fostering opportunities for creative growth.
- Industry Contacts – We are seeking trustees with established connections in the arts and business communities, who can help foster partnerships and support the national and international profile of Shakespeare North Playhouse.
All positions require around 15 days of time a year, including board meetings, reading and prep time. In addition, there will be performances, outreach, fundraising, and cultural events to attend. The role carries the responsibilities of a Company Director and a Charity Trustee. The board is overall responsible for compliance with regulations, good practice, and for the long-term success and sustainability of both Shakespeare North Trust and Shakespeare North Playhouse. The tenure of Trustees is three years.
To apply to become a trustee please email your expression of interest, clearly outlining how you meet the requirements of this role to: [email protected]
