The Theatre On Your Doorstep: Transforming Lives
Fri 10 Jan, 2025
Gear Up for a fun-filled 2025!
Having a theatre right here in Knowsley is a game-changer for our community. It’s not just a place to watch performances but a vibrant hub where creativity thrives, potential is unlocked, and lives are transformed.
For many local families, stepping into Shakespeare North Playhouse is their first experience of live theatre. Recent shows like Waiting for… Snow and Little Penguin’s First Christmas brought families together, offering magical moments that build lasting memories. Through programmes like our interactive Alice in Wonderland exhibition and festive craft workshops, we’re creating opportunities for hands-on exploration, self-expression, and connection — all within our community’s reach.
We’re not only covering Early Years, but we’re also focussing on making a real difference in the lives of local young people (11-16 years) through our involvement in Knowsley’s Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) / Sports, Nutrition and Active Play (SNAP) programme during school holidays.
These initiatives, coordinated by One Knowsley in partnership with Knowsley Council and funded by the Department for Education, are about enriching lives, opening doors, and inspiring futures.
We’ve seen first-hand how theatre can change lives. These sessions are not just about fun activities; they are about giving young people:
- A safe and supportive space to grow.
- Access to creativity and culture that many may not have experienced before.
- Skills for the future, from teamwork to problem-solving.
Take our recent winter sessions as an example. From craft workshops to comedy improvisation and a magical trip to see Alice in Wonderland, the HAF programme offered young people the chance to discover new passions, connect with others, and feel part of something special.
Raising Aspirations and Strengthening Community
Theatre has the power to transform. Programmes like Design a Show from Scratch or DJ Sessions inspire young people to see themselves in new roles — as creators, leaders, and innovators. They build confidence and foster a sense of belonging, showing participants that their voices and talents matter.
For Knowsley, having Shakespeare North Playhouse at the heart of the community means more opportunities to dream big, grow, and connect.
What’s Next?
With more HAF and SNAP sessions planned for 2025, the possibilities are endless. While details are still being finalised, previous activities like puppetry, storytelling, and music theatre workshops give a taste of what’s to come.
We’re also gearing up for more family activities and workshops, ensuring there’s something for everyone.
