An Evening With Les Dennis

Join us in our Cockpit Theatre for an evening of conversation with Les Dennis!

Since coming into prominence as a comedian in the 1970s, Les Dennis has quickly established himself as one of Liverpool’s most beloved comedy and TV stars. After rising through the northern Working Men’s club circuit and starring in The Russ Abbot Show and the Les Dennis laughter show, Les became a mainstay in Saturday night television when he hosted ITV’s Family Fortunes between 1987 and 2002.

In recent years, Les has lit up both stages and screens with a fleeting but fun appearance on BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing and a stint as Malvolio in Shakespeare North’s production of Twelfth Night earlier this year.

Les will sit down with radio legend Pete Price to talk through his illustrious career in what is certain to be an insightful discussion between two local legends.

Don’t miss your chance to hear from an era-defining voice in Merseyside culture and entertainment!

Born in Liverpool, Les came to prominence as a comedian in the 1970s after honing his act on the northern Working Men’s Club circuit and turning pro after a winning set on New Faces.  Les starred in the Russ Abbot Show and The Les Dennis Laughter Show.  He also formed a hugely popular double-act with comedy partner Dustin Gee, sadly cut-short by Dustin’s untimely death.  Les cemented his place as a mainstay of Saturday night television as the host of ITV’s Family Fortunes between 1987 and 2002.  In 2023 he returned to Saturday night TV with a fleeting but fun turn on BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing.

In recent years Les has enjoyed a thriving career as an actor, starring with the Royal Shakespeare Company, the English National Opera and in numerous hit plays and musicals in the West End and on tour, as well as a regular role on Coronation Street.

Radio 1 to Radio City; The London Palladium to the QE2, Pete Price has seen and done it all…

His career has spanned 50 years, encompassing TV and radio and his phenomenally successful autobiography, “Pete Price – Name Dropper” was number one for 3 months in the North West book charts.

Pete is a talk show legend, who has been broadcasting to the people of Merseyside for almost 40 years. His late-night talk show on Radio City earned him 27 radio awards and an induction into the Radio Academy Hall of Fame. He was recently honoured by Liverpool as a Citizen of Honor, recieving this award from the Mayor at Town Hall.

A public figure locally, and known nationally as a regular contributer on Sky News, Pete still works as a stand-up comic and is in high demand at venues across the UK and Europe. He writes his own column for the Liverpool Echo, and in his spare time is a patron of Claire House, a children’s hospice on the Wirral.
