Award-winning character comedian and actress Bebe Cave explores historical female main character syndrome. This time it’s the Victorian era, where men wear top hats and waistcoats and ladies don’t have the vote yet. Good times!
Swoon is a fast-paced, one-woman character historical comedy set in the world of the Pre-Raphaelites, wherein actress and comedian Bebe Cave (Industry, This Time with Alan Partridge) follows up her award-winning debut show CHRISTBRIDE with the fictional story of Bertrude Siddal, the fictional sister of the very real Elizabeth Siddal, and uses this character to tell the story of Elizabeth and her life.
Through the lens of the pre-Raphaelite brotherhood, some very silly men who were very good at painting, and their most famous muses, Bebe skewers pretentious male artistry and the women they love to drown in “a uniquely gleeful, centuries spanning romp” (★★★★★ Chortle).
Why are women such beautiful artistic objects, especially when they’re dead, and why are the men who paint them so difficult and very much alive?
What this results in is a “breathlessly funny and astutely observed” (The List) historical comedy.
