The Story of Edith Smith by Pauline Fleming

The Story of Edith Smith brings to life the remarkable journey of Oxton-born Edith Smith, Britain’s first female police constable with full powers of arrest.

Through a simple, intimate and powerful actor-led performance, the production explores Edith’s resilience, courage and pioneering role in changing women’s place in public life at a time of great social change.

Presented by Oxton Playwrights CIC as part of Her Stories of Wirral, this original production blends theatre, local history and community storytelling to celebrate an often-overlooked figure whose legacy still resonates today.

Following the success of our Jessie Gavin production, which welcomed over 500 visitors, Her Stories of Wirral continues Oxton Playwrights CIC’s work bringing overlooked local histories to life through theatre, heritage and community storytelling.
