Theatre Open Day

Join us for a fun-filled, creative day at Shakespeare North Playhouse on the 2nd of November from 11 am to 4 pm, as we celebrate the culmination of the "OUR TOWN'S SOUND" project, generously funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

Our Open Day is packed with exciting activities for the whole family, including workshops, drama sessions, arts and crafts, writing, and games. It’s the perfect chance to get hands-on, be inspired, and let your imagination run wild!

Bookable Workshops: 

Spoken Word with Blue Saint: British rapper, singer-songwriter, and spoken word poet Blue Saint will guide you in creating your own spoken word piece inspired by your home and what it means to you. 

Spoken Word with Paislie Reid: Join local actor and creative, Paislie Reid, for an interactive workshop that blends music and spoken word.

Storytelling with Og the Giant: Dive into a world of imagination with storytelling sessions perfect for primary school children. 4 – 8 Year olds and 8 – 11 Year olds

Drama Games: Get moving and laughing with interactive drama games designed to spark creativity and teamwork. 4 – 8 Year olds and 8 – 11 Year olds

All day long, drop by for creative activities for all ages, including:

Special Exhibitions: 

  • Interactive Installations: Explore an engaging installation by Focal Studios, showcasing work from young people in collaboration with artists Emmer Winder and Dave Bixter. Get ready to play with words, sounds, and visuals!
  • Our Town’s Sound: Discover the culmination of our heritage project, celebrating the unique history of language in Prescot and Knowsley.

Check out: 

  • Art Installations by Emmer Winder, featuring new, playful compound words created with local schools.
  • Audio-Visual Installations from Focal Studios, Dave Bixter, and Emmer Winder that bring words and sounds to life.
  • Short Films created by our young members alongside Emmer Winder and Dave Bixter.
  • Storytelling sessions with sound artist Robert Awork or through our ‘Big Red Phone Box.’ 

Afternoon Performances: 

Be sure to catch short, lively theatre pieces created by local partners Act for Action and Buzz Hub, inspired by the language of their communities. 

Bonus: Illustration Exhibition 

See Toni-Louise Carter’s artwork documenting the entire journey of the ‘Our Town’s Sound’ project from start to finish. 

Building Tours & Theatre Access: 

Throughout the day, take a behind-the-scenes snapshot tour of our stunning Playhouse and see the iconic Cockpit Theatre! Pre-booking preferred but not essential.

Bar & Kitchen: 

Need a break? Our café will be offering special food and drink deals all day, from coffee and cake to hearty lunches.
