Welcome the Year of the Horse with a full day of family fun at Shakespeare North Playhouse, celebrating Chinese New Year 2026 with culture, creativity, and community.

In partnership with the Confucius Institute from Edge Hill University, enjoy a vibrant programme of FREE activities led by practitioners from the Confucius Institute. Throughout the day, families can take part in hands-on workshops and interactive sessions that bring Chinese traditions to life in a fun and accessible way.

Expect colourful celebrations, creative crafts, storytelling, music, and opportunities to learn about Chinese New Year customs. Whether you’re trying something new or returning to a favourite tradition, there’s something for all ages to enjoy together.

Mask Making –  2:30pm – 4:30pm

Family Area

Drop in and design a festive mask inspired by animals and characters from Chinese folklore. This open, family-friendly activity encourages creativity and imagination, with plenty of materials to personalise your own unique design.
